Profile

The department's research consists of two parts: Firstly, intelligent planning is concerned with exploiting digital methods for energy efficiency and sustainability in the building domain. The bridging function that intelligent digital methods can play between architecture and engineering sciences is intended to support a sustainable design and corresponding decision-making in architecture.  The results are intelligent planning methods, technical innovations, and generally valid sustainability strategies in the building environment. Fields of research are:

  • Digital interdisciplinary models and systems engineering
  • Simulation, optimization and AI methods for decision support and assistance,
  • Model-based strategies and innovations for sustainability.

The second part deals with automation in construction in planning, manufacturing, and operating processes. Here, digital methods are used to capture information and knowledge for automating processes with the goal of a sustainable building environment. Fields of research here are

  • Data analysis and data-driven models toward building semi-automation
  • Smart technologies (Smart Building, Smart City, Smart Grid),
  • Automation and Internet-of-Things in building services engineering,
  • Robotics for resource-saving construction.
